Sprinkle administration of Effexor XR (venlafaxine HCI) has been approved for the treatment of depression and generalized anxiety disorder. Patients with swallowing difficulties can now open the capsule and sprinkle the contents onto a spoonful of applesauce, which should then be swallowed immediately without chewing and followed with a glass of water to ensure that the entire dose is taken.
