American Airlines partners with United Way of America for Katrina air assistance

American Airlines and United Way of America have teamed up to create the Hurricane Katrina "Miles to Move Forward" programme.

According to the two partners, the programme will provide assistance with air transportation for individuals displaced by the disaster. The airline has said that it is appealing to its more than 50 million AAdvantage members, asking them to donate a minimum of 1,000 miles from now until 31 December 2005.

American Airlines has also said that it will commit one million AAdvantage miles to the effort.
