Alaska Airlines introduces "salmon aircraft"

Airline Industry Information,  Oct 3, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Alaska Airlines has said that it has landed the world's largest king salmon at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

According to the airline, it stretches nearly 120 feet and weighs more than 140,000 pounds. It is "Salmon-Thirty-Salmon," an image of a wild Alaska king salmon, and is claimed to be among the world's most intricately painted commercial aircraft. It reportedly comes complete with shiny scales, a dorsal fin and gills.

The livery on the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-400 passenger aircraft is the result of a team of 30 painters working nearly nonstop for 24 days.

Alaska Airlines said that the aircraft symbolises the critical role the airline plays in transporting fresh Alaska seafood to the continental US and beyond, with the paint scheme being produced in partnership with the Alaska Fisheries Marketing Board.
