Delta and American lower fares on Boston route

Airline Industry Information,  Oct 13, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Delta Air Lines and American Airlines have cut the cost of tickets for travel between New York and Boston after JetBlue Airways Corp entered the market.

Delta has reportedly cut fares to USD40 each way, while American Airlines matched the JetBlue introductory fare for the route at USD25 each way. American Airlines' fare will be effective as of 8 November. Analyst Terry Trippler at Cheapseats.com said the price will be set by JetBlue - wherever the airline goes, it will set the price.

Chris Kelly, spokeswoman for Delta, said it is not unusual for the airline to match an offer like this, Reuters reported.
