Egyptian air traffic controllers end go-slow action

A go-slow action staged by Egyptian air traffic controllers has ended.

The action was terminated on Saturday (28 May) after the country's aviation minister promised to look into demands for more pay and better working conditions, according to an airport official.

The Egyptian authorities have reportedly considered the go-slow action, which was launched at the start of May, to be illegal. The action delayed air traffic to and from the country. The air traffic controllers have said that the action was in line with the standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation.

The aviation minister has promised to try to give the air traffic controllers the pay rise they have been demanding and to provide better options for promotion, an air traffic controller told Reuters. The air traffic controllers have been calling for salaries to double over three years and to be given better health insurance and better prospects for promotion.
