An aircraft operated by Indonesian domestic carrier Mandala Airlines skidded off the runway as it landed at Semarang airport on Friday (11 February).

The Boeing 737-200, flying from Jakarta, was landing at the airport in Indonesia's West Java province during heavy rain, and as the flight touched down it hydroplaned on the wet tarmac.

The aircraft ended up in a patch of grass, where it remained on Saturday, a police spokesman said. There were 92 passengers on board and two people suffered minor injuries.

Also on Friday a flight operated by Indonesian low-cost carrier Lion Air slid off a wet runway at Selaparang Airport on Lombok Island, east of Java. The MD-82 aircraft was about to take off when the incident occurred, reported the Antara news agency. None of the 122 passengers on board were injured.
