US Airways and America West reveal new paintwork
Airline Industry Information, August 24, 2005
AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
The new aircraft livery to be used by US Airways Group Inc and America West Airlines after the two airlines merge has been unveiled.
The paintwork is in white, with a red stripe and dark blue on the belly of the aircraft. One of the reasons behind the choice of a lighter colour is to help the aircraft stay cooler during stops in Phoenix and Las Vegas.
The airlines said that the new US Airways design incorporates elements from both carriers' existing livery and also features the logos of the companies involved in the merger, including Piedmont, Allegheny, PSA and America West.
The merger of the airlines is expected to be finalised in late September or early October this year.
America West's chief executive said on Tuesday (23 August) that the tie-up with US Airways was more important as fuel prices continue to rise.
