New scanning system in use at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport

Airline Industry Information,  April 12, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport has seen a new, automated baggage-scanning system taken into use.

The new system is reportedly part of the efforts to make airports safer after the 11 September 2001 attacks and it is expected to cost USD220m. According to the plans, the system will eventually be able to handle all the 55,000 bags checked in at the airport every day.

Initially the system is scanning luggage for Continental Airlines flights, and the aim is to install similar systems in three of the remaining four terminals by August, The Associated Press reported.
