Italian manufacturer Alenia Aeronautica and the US-based Vought Aircraft Industries Inc have announced a USD560m aircraft complex to be built in South Carolina.
The new 880-acre complex near the state's Charleston International Airport will be used to build fuselage for Boeing's new 7E7 Dreamliner aircraft under a joint venture. The complex is set to create 645 jobs in the region with an average yearly wage of USD50,000.
Vought Aircraft Industries will build a 300,000 square foot building to assemble rear fuselage which will be attached to middle section imported by Alenia from Italy at a similar building built by both Vought and Alenia on the site. The complex will be managed by a new company, Global Aeronautica LLC, formed by Alenia and Vought, reports The Associated Press.
