Ten feared dead in crash of private aircraft off Funchal

A private aircraft which crashed shortly after takeoff from the Portuguese island of Madeira on 11 September was carrying ten people.

It was previously reported that the twin-engine Beechcraft - which crashed into the Atlantic Ocean - was carrying nine people including a British pilot and eight Spanish passengers. The US-registered aircraft crashed shortly after departing at 2153 local time from Funchal airport for Malaga, Spain. It is said to have lost contact with the control tower about seven minutes after its departure.

Rescue teams are continuing in their search for the bodies of those on board. The cause of the crash is currently unclear.
