WWII bomb explodes at German airport

A bomb from the World War Two-era exploded at Siegen airport in Germany on 28 September, blowing a hole in the airport`s runway just after a passenger aircraft had landed.

The blast did not result in any injuries; however it left a crater several metres deep in the runway and resulted in the airport being closed.

The bomb was apparently buried beneath the runway and authorities have surmised that vibrations from the aircraft may have set it off. Authorities have ruled out the possibility that the explosion may have been caused by anything other than an ageing bomb according to Reuters.
