Implantable hearing device - Product Marketplace - Brief Article

Ear, Nose & Throat Journal,  Dec, 2001

Researchers presented results of a study on the long-term effects of the Vibrant(r) Soundbridge TM at the American Academy of Otolaryngology Annual Meeting and OTO EXPO, confirming that the device is safe and effective for long-term use.

The Vibrant Soundbridge, developed by Symphonix Devices, Inc., is the first implantable middle-ear hearing device to be approved by the FDA. It is designed to treat the most common form of hearing impairment, moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss. The performance of the Vibrant Soundbridge was evaluated in the first 100 patients, each of whom chose the device after having prior experience with traditional hearing aids. All subjects had been implanted with the device for at least 1 year, with some having used it continuously for up to 3 years.
