Redesigned metered-dose inhaler - Product Marketplace - Brief Article

Ear, Nose & Throat Journal,  Dec, 2001

Thayer Medical Corp. has developed a new, more convenient, and more affordable way to effectively dispense metered-dose inhaler drugs--a paperboard holding chamber that replaces the costly and bulky plastic injection-molded devices. Thayer recently introduced the LiteAire (R), a unique, dual-valved holding chamber, and is marketing the product to emergency rooms, hospitals, doctors' offices, and through pharmacies.

Unlike the bulky plastic versions, the LiteAire holding chamber folds flat to fit into a pocket or small purse, a feature that encourages patient compliance. It can be reused by the same patient for up to a week before disposal.

LiteAire's two valves are designed to maximize proper inhalation of the drug and minimize the drug's contact with the throat and tongue, which could create problems for long-term users. It is four-color-printed with graphics and directions for use.

After a number of studies, including bacteriologic and biocompatibility testing, the LiteAire received FDA clearance for marketing.
