Nyle remembered

American Handgunner,  July-August, 2008  by Steve Liston

I worked at the newspaper photo lab with Nyle Leatham starting in my sophomore year in high school in 1959 and through college. I completely agree with Dave Anderson (May/June 2008) when he wrote, "I came to respect him as much as any man I ever knew."

Nyle also taught me about photography, helped me pick out my first Nikon camera, lenses and remote-control motor drive. I also learned about life, family and flying from Nyle. I followed his flight training intently, and I was one of his first passengers, in my first small airplane ride. Despite the fact the first ride was not a flight but a ground loop in a Luscombe, I did fly with him many times. I subsequently became a Naval Aviator.

I've bought American Handgunner off and on at the store for years, and only recently subscribed. I'm so glad I did not miss Anderson's story. I'm sad the world is no longer blessed by the presence of Nyle Leatham, but I am happy I can continue to try to live by his example.
