Seattle Boat Show University

Boat/US Magazine,  Nov, 2007

Slated for Jan. 24 to Feb. 2, the Seattle Boat Show is again holding its popular "Boat Show University." Sponsored by BoatU.S., the University is a series of seminars and classes designed to expand your boating knowledge and safety. Over 200 free, 45-minute seminars and dozens of three-hour advanced courses are being offered (for a fee), featuring nautical experts such as author Nigel Calder and weather guru Lee Chesneau.

For the advanced courses, you may elect to take just one half-day class (for about $40) or complete an entire curriculum over two days (for about $100). For example, the Cruising the Inside Passage to Alaska two-day curriculum includes three-hour classes on provisioning, dealing with medical emergencies, and seamanship.

According to the organizers, Seattle's is the largest West Coast boat show with over 300 boats displayed outside on the hard and in the water. For more information, go to Seattleboatshow.com.

As part of BoatU.S.' sponsorship of the University, boat show discounts are available to BoatU.S. members at BoatUS.com/tickets.
