According to new research conduced by Lloyds TSB Internet banking, more than half (54%) of all PCs and laptops have been infected with a computer virus and as many as three quarters of PC owners are worried about the threat of viruses.

In addition the research also revealed that despite these fears, almost one in 10 computer owners do not regularly update their anti-virus software and one in 20 do not know whether or not they have anti-virus protection on their PC, the company said.

94% of survey respondents said they thought it important to regularly update their anti-virus software whilst only 2% thought that it was not important at all. The survey went on to reveal that three quarters of those questioned were concerned that a virus will infect their PC and of those, 17% are very concerned.

To tackle this problem Lloyds TSB has announced that in conjunction with Zone Labs, an Internet security provider, it is to offer all visitors to lloydstsb.com a free PC security scan which will identify any potentially suspicious spyware. In addition Lloyds TSB will also be offering its customers a 20% discount on Zone Labs software: ZoneAlarm Security Suite.
