HSBC survey shows news is one of the favourites for Internet users

Financial organisation HSBC Offshore has completed a survey showing that people use the Internet for keeping up with news, buying cheap airline tickets and banking.
Specifically, 59% used the Internet for keeping up to date with news while 58% looked at travel and flight information. Sports web sites were visited by 26% of all respondents and weather sites by 25%.
When asked about Internet shopping the majority - 52% - claimed that their preferred incentive was airline mileage schemes while 23% liked cash incentives, 6% asked for store vouchers and 6% looked for discounts.

Finally, online banking was used by 50% primarily to view account information. Just 7% used it to view investment information and 3% accessed background services such as brochures, leaflets, calculators and tools.
The survey was conducted in January 2003 and polled 1,540 customers of HSBC Offshore.
