Barclays Bank suffered a serious security problem with its online banking service on Monday 31 July after installing a software upgrade over the weekend.
Seven customers reported being able to view details of other people's accounts, although they could not conduct transactions. Barclays said the problem resulted from people logging on to the site simultaneously and it withdrew the software upgrade to iron out the problem.
The site was closed for three and a half hours and reopened at 19.00 (BST) on 31 July.
Barclays said in a statement that it regarded the security breach as 'unacceptable'.
