Can't lose weight even after switching from sodas to "fruit drinks"? Blame innocent-looking sweetened beverages. A University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill study found that in 2000, Americans took in an average of 83 more calories a day from sweeteners than in 1980, with 66 of those calories coming from sugared beverages. These drinks aren't filling, so you don't realize how many calories you're consuming. Try orange juice with pulp instead; the fiber will help you feel satisfied.--S.C.
