Polluters, repent! The end is nearer

Vegetarian Times,  May-June, 2007  by Brandy Colbert

The Doomsday Clock, a symbolic clock that tracks how close humanity is to catastrophic destruction, has been moved two minutes closer to the final hour of midnight. The adjustment takes into account recent news on global warming and nuclear proliferation. The dock was created in 1947 by the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists (BAS), a nonprofit organization of researchers that follows the impact of significant world events--usually wars and weapons development.

But BAS believes global warming could eventually lead to wars over water and fertile land, in addition to threatening natural habitats and agricultural resources. The clock was last moved forward after the events of 9/11. It has been changed 18 times, and now sits at 11:55 p.m.
