Dark victory
Vegetarian Times, March, 2004
A Chocolate Manufacturers Association (CMS) poll in July 2003 found that consumer preference for dark chocolate increases as Americans age. "Only 11 percent of consumers 18-24 years old said they would choose dark over milk chocolate while 37 percent of consumers 45-54 years old said they prefer dark chocolate," the association reports.
Growing awareness of the antioxidants in chocolate may account for recent increases in sales, the CMA speculates. Health-conscious people should be aware that adding milk to chocolate dilutes the strength of these antioxidants.
