Manly meal - scoop - grain cereals found to reduce health risks in men - Brief Article

Vegetarian Times,  August, 2003

The right breakfast cereal can help men reduce their chances of death from heart disease, says a report in the February 2003 American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. The medical histories of more than 86,000 male physicians were studied, and those who ate at least one serving of whole grain breakfast cereal per day had a 27 percent lower risk of death from any cause compared to those who rarely ate whole grain cereal.

The men who ate the most whole grain cereals also had a 28 percent lower risk of death from heart disease and a 23 percent lower risk of heart attack than those who ate the least whole grain cereal. These benefits persisted even after researchers considered other risk factors, including cigarette smoking, alcohol, high cholesterol and infrequent physical exercise.
