Pass the lime - Scoop: health fitness nutrition diet supplements personal care environment - college student comes down with scurvy - Brief Article
Vegetarian Times, May, 2003
> A college student who subsisted on cheese, crackers, soft drinks and cookies has developed scurvy, which was believed to have been eradicated. The student consumed less than one-tenth of a milligram of vitamin C per day, leading to the illness. A daily glass of orange juice will meet most adults' daily requirements of 60 milligrams, says Barbara Hermreck, a registered dietician with the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Lawrence, Kansas, who presented the case to the American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition in January 2003.
