Fill'er Up - children, obesity, and restaurant eating - Brief Article
Nutrition Action Healthletter, Nov, 2001
Restaurant meals are expanding. So are our children. And that's not entirely coincidental. Kids aged seven to 17 consume nearly twice as many calories when they eat at restaurants (average: 765) than at home (average: 425) or just about anywhere else. Restaurant meals are also higher in artery-clogging saturated fat.
What to do: Resist temptations to overeat at restaurants (come-ons like giant servings, all-you-can-eat buffets, and unlimited refills). Teach children that they can leave the table without being stuffed ... and with a doggie bag.
