Nutrition Action Healthletter,  July-August, 2004

In our June article "Farmed Salmon Under Fire," we said that if everyone in the U.S. today are farmed salmon once a week, there would be somewhere between 300 and 2,400 extra cancer cases during their lifetimes. In fact, there would be between 12,000 and 24,000 extra cases. That translates into roughly 170 to 340 cases per year.

While not trivial, that number is tiny compared to the estimated 50,000 to 100,000 fewer deaths from sudden cardiac arrest that would occur every year if everybody ate salmon (farmed or otherwise) once a week.
