Mira Schendel, Sergio Camargo, and Willys de Castro - Brief Article

ArtForum,  Jan, 2000  by Monica Amor

CENTRO CULTURAL BANCO DO BRASIL

Curated by art historian and critic Ronaldo Brito, this monumental exhibition traces the formal affinities among and strategies of Brazilian artists Mira Schendel, Sergio Camargo, and Willys de Castro over a nearly thirty-year period. Although, among the three, Castro was the sole member of the Neo-concrete movement, they all forged intimate links with its theoretical and formal tenets, which are reflected in their shared concerns: phenomenology, the complexities of linear and geometric structure, and the incorporation of time in the apprehension of the work. A catalogue with essays by Brito, Joao Massao, Cristina Bach, and Roberto Concheru is planned. Mar. 15-May 21.
