Cultural Fund gives grants to 234 groups

The grants were numerous. The groups, eclectic.

At a gala reception at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts last night, the Philadelphia Cultural Fund honored and handed out checks to 234 city-based arts and cultural groups - the largest number of recipients in the 15 years it's been doing this.

The $2,010,900 divvied up among the nonprofit arts organizations comes from the city's own budget. To that end, city Commerce Director Stephanie Naidoff and City Council members Jannie Blackwell, Michael A. Nutter, Blondell Reynolds Brown, and Jack Kelly were present to be photographed with the artsy types.
