Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, July, 2002 by Drake, Kelly L.
Anxiety disorders are one of the most common psychiatric conditions among children and adolescents. Epidemiological studies indicate that prevalence rates range, on average, between 5% and 15% (see Costello and Angold, 1995, for a review). More importantly, these disorders are associated with significant impairment in academic, social, familial, and personal functioning and have been found to be highly comorbid with depression and substance abuse (Clark et al., 1994; Kashani and Orvaschel, 1988).
