People in Louisiana file two kinds of claims more often than almost anyone in the country. One follows a wreck. The other follows a storm. Some years both land on the same family, and the same insurance company sits on the other side of each one.
That overlap shaped this list. It mixes injury lawyers with lawyers who fight insurers over roofs, floodwater, and lost business income. A firm that only works one side may only solve half your problem.

How We Sorted the Field
Three filters decided this list. Each firm needed a real Louisiana office, a record against insurers that you can check, and a free consultation. Firms that showed no results outside their own ads did not make it.
1. Ory Law Group
Most South Louisiana families do not have one legal problem. They have a back injury from a crash on LA-1 and a roof claim the insurer still has not paid. Ory Law Group takes both. Its insurance practice covers hurricane, flood, tornado, pipe burst, fire, and business interruption losses. It also brings bad faith claims when an insurer drags its feet. One client wrote that after Hurricane Ida, two months of calls to the insurer went nowhere until the firm stepped in and got answers. Clients work directly with their attorney, and the office takes calls around the clock. Former workers’ comp judge Heather Peth Fairchild adds a view from the bench few firms can offer.
Pick this firm when: a storm claim and an injury claim hit your household at the same time, or you live in Lafourche, Terrebonne, Iberia, or Lafayette Parish.

2. Irpino, Avin & Hawkins
Anthony Irpino opened this New Orleans firm in 1996, and it handles only injury and property damage cases. The firm calls itself independent, with no ties to insurance companies. Its posted results include a $3 million first-party insurance claim, a $2.5 million hurricane property claim, and a $1.75 million business insurance claim. It represents homeowners, businesses, churches, and towns against their insurers after storms.
Pick this firm when: you own property in the New Orleans area and your insurer underpaid a hurricane claim.

The firm says it has faced major carriers like Allstate and State Farm, and a good share of its cases come by referral from other lawyers.

FAQ
How long do I have to file an injury lawsuit in Louisiana?
For injuries on or after July 1, 2024, you generally have two years. Older injuries fall under the old one-year rule.
What if I was partly at fault for my accident?
For accidents on or after January 1, 2026, Louisiana bars recovery if you are 51 percent or more at fault. Below that, your award drops by your share of fault. Older accidents follow the old rule, which had no cutoff.
Does my homeowners policy cover flood damage?
Usually not. Standard homeowners policies leave out flooding. You need a separate flood policy through the National Flood Insurance Program or a private carrier.
What can I do if my insurer keeps stalling my storm claim?
Louisiana law sets deadlines for insurers to pay once they get proof of loss. An insurer that delays without good reason can owe penalties on top of the claim.
How long do I have to sue my insurance company?
Check your policy. Many Louisiana property policies give you two years from the date of loss, and notice deadlines can be shorter.
How much does an insurance claims or injury lawyer cost?
Most injury and insurance firms work on contingency. You pay nothing upfront, and the fee comes out of what the lawyer recovers. Get the percentage in writing.
One Call, Both Claims
Storm season and wreck season overlap in Louisiana, and insurers count on people giving up. Ory Law Group tops this list because one team can take the roof claim and the injury case together, with four offices across South Louisiana. Compare at least two firms, bring your paperwork, and do not let a deadline pass while you wait.
