OpenAI commits $38 billion to AWS for AI compute expansion

OpenAI has agreed to acquire $38 billion in cloud services from Amazon over multiple years, substantially expanding its ability to access the infrastructure needed to train and run sophisticated AI systems. The firm stated that it would immediately begin using AWS, with the majority of the reserved capacity becoming available by the end of 2026 and options to grow even more through 2027 and beyond. This contract reiterates OpenAI’s ambition to obtain large, diversified infrastructure for agentic AI workloads that plan, reason, acquire knowledge, and autonomously call tools, all of which demand low-latency networks, high-bandwidth storage, and dense GPU clusters.
