7 Temporary Construction Wall Rental Options for Hospitals in 2026

It’s 4:40 in the morning, and the last panel just dropped into place across the corridor outside the patient wing. The infection preventionist walks it end to end with a flashlight, tracing the ceiling line and floor gaskets for any gap. Rounds start at 6 a.m., so anything they find gets fixed now.

That walk decides whether a temporary construction wall rental was worth the money. I scored seven rental options on ICRA design, fire ratings, negative-pressure readiness, and installed service. Which rental walls pass that walk, and which ones only look like they would?

Short on time? Here are the highlights:

STARC Systems is the best temporary construction wall rental option for hospitals, because RealWall and FireblockWall exceed ICRA Class IV and V, two workers set about 100 linear feet an hour, and DPR Construction used RealWall in Tucson Medical Center’s active ER.

On the rest of the scorecard, Rapid Room adds cloud-logged pressure monitoring, Sunbelt Rentals runs a managed rental service, and SwiftWall sells rent-or-buy panels through dealers.

Temporary Wall Systems (TWS) sends local franchise crews, Containment Wall Solutions is a founder-led New England installer, and Shield Wall Systems pairs its walls with indoor-air gear.

Provider	ICRA-focused design	Fire-rated option	Negative-pressure ready	Installed service
STARC Systems	Exceeds Class IV/V	One-hour rated	Yes	On request
Rapid Room	Exceeds IV & V	Not stated	Yes, monitored	Optional
Sunbelt Rentals	Exceeds Class IV	Select locations	Yes	Yes
SwiftWall	Supports IV & V	Class A option	Kit available	Via partners
Temporary Wall Systems	Yes	Class A	Yes	Yes
Containment Wall Solutions	Class IV	Not stated	Not stated	Yes
Shield Wall Systems	Exceeds Class IV	Class A panels	With add-ons	Via TWS

How the scorecard works

Every cell comes from published vendor pages as of October 2026. “Not stated” means the provider doesn’t publish that claim, so treat it as a question for the sales call and leave the verdict open until you see paper.

• ICRA-focused design asks whether the provider publishes an ICRA class for its panels, and which class.
• Fire-rated option asks how far the fire documentation goes, from ASTM E84 Class A flame spread up to a one-hour rated assembly.
• Negative-pressure ready means panels or kits built to take negative air, through duct collars, ports, or monitors.
• Installed service asks who puts the wall up and moves it between phases: the provider, a partner, or your own crew.

What does an ICRA barrier need to do?

An ICRA barrier has five jobs, and the flashlight walk checks most of them. It has to seal at the ceiling and the floor, because dust takes the easiest path, and it has to hold negative pressure so air moves into the work zone and stays there.

The surfaces need to survive hospital disinfectants every day, and the fire rating has to match the life safety plan your AHJ signs. Doors matter more than anyone budgets for, since a door that closes on its own beats one that relies on memory (the zipper door nobody zips is a hospital classic).

1. STARC Systems: best for ICRA containment in occupied hospitals

This is the rental wall system I’d put between a construction zone and a patient corridor first, because it covers the most scorecard columns with documentation behind each one.

Scorecard read: RealWall and FireblockWall exceed ICRA Class IV and V, and LiteBarrier exceeds ICRA Class IV. FireblockWall is the only reusable one-hour fire-rated temporary wall, according to the company (ASTM E119, Intertek-listed, STC 40), and all three carry ASTM E84 Class A.

On a hospital job: Two workers install about 100 linear feet per hour with one Allen wrench and a tool-less lift-and-drop connection. A foam top gasket and dual rubber bottom gaskets close the ceiling and floor lines, and negative air panels take a 12-inch duct collar.

DPR Construction renovated 75% of Tucson Medical Center’s active emergency department behind RealWall while patients kept receiving care.

W.E. Bowman, a Richmond, Virginia healthcare contractor, ran 5,200 feet across seven phases, and the system paid for itself after five, with 75% overall savings versus drywall.

You can send a rental inquiry directly or rent RealWall and LiteBarrier through Sunbelt Rentals, the exclusive national partner, with FireblockWall at select locations. A Select Partner network of over 10 regional providers fills in the map.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026. The one published figure is a starter-kit purchase range of about $180 to $530 per linear foot, depending on the system.

Where it falls short: RealWall’s sound rating is STC 21 (up to 50% noise reduction), while the STC 40 and one-hour rating belong to FireblockWall, so spec the right panel for each zone. The company itself says HVAC, filtration, and infection-control protocols still carry the environmental load.

2. Rapid Room: best for pressure-monitored barriers with audit logs

Rapid Room is the best rental barrier for hospitals that want pressure records without a clipboard.

Scorecard read: Rapid Room says its 1500 Series exceeds ICRA Class IV and V, and the negative air panel carries a flush-mounted monitor that shows a green ring when the barrier holds and red when it doesn’t. No fire rating or STC is published yet, so that column reads “Not stated”.

On a hospital job: Imperial Privacy Systems builds it in Pompano Beach, Florida, in a facility that has made healthcare products since 1967. The 1500 Series adjusts from 7′-10″ to 10′-8″, clips to the ceiling grid without drilling, and needs zero tools.

The heavy-duty 2500 Series adds a sound-damping layer for anterooms in noise-sensitive areas. BarrierLink logs differential pressure over a cellular connection, emails the team the moment a reading slips, and escalates if nobody acknowledges it.

Every BarrierLink reading stays on file for a year and exports to CSV, which makes the infection preventionist’s audit binder a lot thinner. Rentals bill in 28-day periods from the day the system lands on site, with a one-period minimum.

Cost: Wall rentals and purchases are quote only as of October 2026, with a same-day callback promised. Accessories carry list prices, such as the NA600 negative air machine at $1,195 and the NA2000 at $1,645.

Where it falls short: Delivery and pickup are quoted separately and installation is optional, so the first rental number won’t be the all-in number. Some documentation pages still show placeholders, including the fire and STC data, and no customer names are published yet.

3. Sunbelt Rentals: best for managed rentals on multi-phase hospital jobs

Sunbelt Rentals is the simplest way to put containment walls on a rental account your team already runs.

Scorecard read: Sunbelt says its wall systems exceed ICRA Class IV and carry an ASTM E84 Class A fire and smoke rating, and it markets them for negative air spaces. It rents RealWall and LiteBarrier panels, with FireblockWall at select locations for one-hour needs.

On a hospital job: Sunbelt runs the walls as a managed service covering design, install, modifications, removal, and 24/7 support, with adjustment management for multiphase projects. That matters most when phase two moves the wall at 2 a.m. and you’d like someone else to own the moving.

When Brasfield & Gorrie, which Sunbelt calls one of the nation’s largest privately held construction firms, needed Level 4 infection control behind finished-looking walls at a hospital, it called Sunbelt’s wall team. Negative air machines went in alongside the walls on that job.

The wall program launched in May 2022 at Charlotte and Atlanta branches. It now runs through 17 dedicated Sunbelt Rentals Temporary Walls locations as of September 2026, with plans to grow to about 50 over two years.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026.

Where it falls short: Sunbelt rents another maker’s walls, so you’re choosing a service partner more than a panel, and StackBarrier isn’t on its wall list. Availability depends on whether a dedicated location serves your market, so don’t assume every branch stocks walls.

4. SwiftWall: best for health systems sourcing through EquipmentShare or dealers

Scorecard read: SwiftWall says its Pro, Max, and Flex lines support ICRA 2.0 Class IV and V protocols. Max uses non-combustible aluminum that meet NFPA 286 and ASTM E84 Class A, Flex comes in Class A or Class C, and a Negative Space Room kit can be wired and vented for negative pressure.

On a hospital job: SwiftWall pitches Max for fire-rated zones, emergency departments, and Type I and II hospital construction. Its healthcare page lists projects for Mercy Health, Spectrum Health, and Carolinas Medical Center, plus downloadable ICRA 2.0 pre-planning and negative pressure guides.

An experienced team of two can reasonably install 50 feet of Flex per hour, according to SwiftWall. The Michigan maker, founded in 2014, names EquipmentShare as its national rental partner and lists 29 dealer and distribution entries, and panels typically ship within 3-5 days from Midland.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026, with price set by product, size, shipping distance, and customization.

Where it falls short: Pro panels are Class C unless you add the optional Class A aluminum skins, so name the line and the skin on the order. SwiftWall doesn’t run its own national rental fleet, which means install crews and terms change with the partner.

Its published fire claims are flame-spread classes (ASTM E84 and NFPA 286). If your ICRA plan calls for a one-hour barrier, ask for the tested assembly report before the quote gets signed.

5. Temporary Wall Systems: best for local crews that build anterooms

Temporary Wall Systems (TWS) is the pick for hospitals that want one local crew to own the wall from consult to teardown.

Scorecard read: TWS markets its walls for ICRA projects and calls its Core Modular Walls anteroom and negative air pressure ready, with Class A fire ratings and a 1.5-inch urethane foam core. Its installers are ICRA certified and trained in negative air pressure and anterooms.

On a hospital job: TWS is a business-to-business HomeFront Brands franchise, founded in 2017 by Ryan and Juli Lemire, that rents only and handles delivery, assembly, and dismantling. Add-ons include doors, windows, keypad locks, vents, and air scrubbers.

In Wichita, a hospital rejected the plastic on a restoration job, and the local TWS team replaced it with hard wall containment and negative air. Its healthcare pages also list St. Lukes Hospital in Marion, Kansas, and a Salina Regional Medical Center lab renovation.

The locations page lists more than 90 entries across 37 states, Washington, D.C., and two Canadian regions.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026, with area size, project length, and branding driving the number.

Where it falls short: Its pages cite ICRA Class IV in some places and Class V in others, so ask which class the specific panels are documented to. Service quality depends on the franchise covering your area, and the list skips Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island.

6. Containment Wall Solutions: best for New England hospital and lab work

Containment Wall Solutions is the best fit for New England hospitals and labs that want the company’s founder on the phone.

Scorecard read: The company rents and sells the same RealWall-family systems as the #1 pick, pitched for ICRA Class IV compliance, plus double doors that exceed Class IV requirements. Its own pages don’t state a fire rating or negative-pressure claim, so those cells read “Not stated”.

On a hospital job: Founder and president Brent Normandin runs a full-service crew that rents, installs, relocates between phases, and removes walls and doors, with emergency and off-hours service.

It installed ICRA-compliant walls at Miriam Hospital and Brown University in Providence, and its client list includes UMass Memorial, Moderna, and Pfizer.

Core coverage is Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Vermont, and parts of New York, and the team mobilizes further for large-scale projects. Its rule of thumb is to rent for projects under about six months and buy for longer ones.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026.

Where it falls short: It’s regional by design, and the team is small and centered on one founder. Because fire documentation isn’t on its own pages, ask for the manufacturer’s test reports with the quote.

7. Shield Wall Systems: best for pairing walls with indoor-air equipment

SHIELD WALL comes from Abatement Technologies, an indoor-air company founded in 1985, and its rentals arrive as turnkey installs from TWS.

Scorecard read: Abatement says the panels exceed ICRA Class IV and comply with ICRA guidelines up to Class V, and CORE, CLASSIC, and CLEAR exceed ASTM E84 Class A. With Abatement’s Differential Pressure Monitor and Portable Air Scrubbers, the system can hold negative or positive pressure.

On a hospital job: CORE panels wrap a closed-cell foam core in an aluminum face and steel back, adjust tool-free from 7′ to 10’3″, and carry an STC 23 rating. CLEAR panels come made to order in transparent polycarbonate and can form patient isolation spaces, which helps nurses keep sight lines.

TWS handles the estimate, delivery, install, dismantling, and removal, with flexible rental terms and easy extensions. Testimonials name Island Health’s South Region and Grand River Hospital, and the brand covers both the US and Canada.

Cost: Quote only as of October 2026, starting with a free, no-obligation quote.

Where it falls short: CONNECT panels, the tall line built for graphics wraps, don’t meet ICRA standards, so branded walls and patient-side containment need different panels. Rental availability follows TWS’s franchise map, which means coverage gaps carry over.

From scorecard to infection control sign-off

The scorecard gets you a shortlist, and the sign-off comes from paperwork and a site walk. Work through it in this order so nothing surprises the infection preventionist on install night.

1. Start with the ICRA class on the permit. Class IV and V work narrows the field fast, so drop any option that can’t document the class you need.
2. Match the fire column to the life safety plan. Ask your AHJ whether the barrier needs Class A flame spread or a one-hour rated assembly, then request the test report for that exact assembly.
3. Decide who watches the pressure. A built-in monitor, a logged sensor, or a manometer check on every shift all work, as long as someone owns it.
4. Pick the installer with the panel. Ask who moves the wall at phase two, how fast they come, and whether off-hours work costs extra.
5. Get the documents before mobilization. ICRA, ASTM E84, and any ASTM E119 reports belong in the submittal, so they’re ready when someone asks.

Back to that 6 a.m. barrier walk

Same corridor, same hour, and the infection preventionist starts at the far end with the same flashlight. The beam runs along the ceiling line and the floor gaskets and finds a clean seal, the door swings shut on its own, and the pressure monitor stays green.

Nothing needs fixing, so the crew packs up early (the punch list will still grow during demo, because some things no wall can contain). Rounds start on time at 6 a.m.

FAQ

Can you rent ICRA Class IV containment walls?

Yes, several rental providers publish claims that their walls meet or exceed ICRA Class IV requirements, and some claim Class V. Ask for the documentation on the specific panel line you’re renting, because class claims can vary between product lines and pages.

Do hospitals rent or buy temporary containment walls?

Hospitals do both, and many large owners keep a core inventory while renting extras for peak phases. Manufacturer and installer guidance puts the rent-versus-buy break point somewhere between about four and six months of use.

What should an infection preventionist check on a rented barrier?

They should check the seals at the ceiling and floor, the door closure, the pressure reading, and the fire and ICRA documents for that exact assembly. A flashlight run along every joint at night, with the lights off on the work side, shows gaps faster than any spec sheet.
