Mental Health Nursing, Jan 2004
A new book outlining the challenges that health professionals face when dealing with postnatal depression (PND) in a multi cultural society has been published by the CPHVA
Postnatal depression and maternal mental health in a multi cultural society, challenges and solutions is a compact, easy-to-read version of the speakers' talks given at the recent conference of the CPHVA's postnatal depression network and includes two papers on working with asylum seekers. Additional material includes examples of CPHVA resources supporting this area of practice and fact sheets generated by members of Urdu, Somali, Chinese and Bengali speaking communities.
The CPHVA's Professional Officer for Research and Practice Development, Cheryll Adams said: 'This publication is set to become the core text for those working in this area. It offers perspectives from the policy maker, the anthropologist, clinicians and most importantly service users, six of whom contributed to a round table discussion during the conference programme.'
