Misinformation, disinformation and bloody murder...

Human Events,  1998  by Karpel, Craig S

You live in a world where things are not always what they seem. You rely on information to warn you of danger, or tell you of opportunity. If that information is false or misleading, it can have a terrible effect on your life.

Sometimes a small piece of information - a warning, a tip, a bulletin can make the difference between rags and riches, freedom and tyranny, or life and death. Without a source of truth...a light to show the way...you may never know what danger is coming at you...

If you lived in the Ukraine in 1930, you would likely have become a victim of one of the biggest acts of genocide in the history of the human race. Stalin killed somewhere between 5 and 10 million people there. ANew York Times reporter named Walter Duranty traveled through the area, and could have revealed the horror to the world, but chose to cover it up. Duranty was a Pulitzer Prize winner, but he was also a Communist sympathizer. He gave Stalin rave reviews - even while there was tremendous loss of life from starvation and related diseases. Almost single-handedly, Duranty covered up one of the biggest acts of genocide in the history of the world. If he had reported what he knew, what might the world have done? But he didn't.. the world believed the Pulitzer Prize winner.. .and the cost of his disinfomation was untold millions of lives...

Nighttime in Coventry, England -- November 16, 1940...The quiet is shattered as Nazi bombs fall from the sky in "Operation Moonlight Sonata," German retaliation for the bombing of Munich. British Intelligence had cracked the unbreakable German "Enigma" code, and warned Churchill of the coming raid. But Churchill was afraid that if he intercepted the raid on Coventry, the Nazis would know they were reading the code, which British Intelligence was using to get information about widespread German troop movements and Hitler's military plans. So Churchill and the rest of the British leadership kept quiet. They went to the bomb shelters in London that night, pretending they expected another bombing of London. Nazi bombs rain on a sleeping Coventry. . .586 people are killed. . . countless others wounded. Much of the 800 year old city is destroyed, including historic St. Michael's Cathedral. Who was standing watch for the people of Coventry?

Dawn over Pearl Harbor -- December 7, 1941: Japanese bombers and submarines fire on the Navy port in the infamous "sneak attack"...2,400 die...1,300 are wounded... 1,000 missing. . .200 aircraft destroyed or damaged. . .3 ships are sunk, 18 are hit. A surprise attack? There is ample evidence that FDR not only knew about an attack, but invited one. Unthinkable? Think again: "...everything that the Japanese were planning to do was known to the United States..." ARMY BOARD, 1944. In 1940 Roosevelt ordered the fleet transferred to Pearl Harbor, there to remain in a known exposed position, above the protests of his Admirals. In the summer of 1941, the U.S. froze all of Japan's assets in the U.S., cutting off their main supply of oil and virtually forcing them to war. It appears FDR knew Japan would attack, and even withheld intelligence from Hawaii, making it more vulnerable. He wanted war, the American people did not. After Pearl Harbor, we immediately joined World War II. Roosevelt had his war.. .

1895...William Randolph Hearst's newspaper pushes for war with Spain: Hearst puts pressure on President McKinley, and the U.S. goes to war... But if someone had told you that Hearst just wanted a war to sell more papers, would you have gone to war, or sent your boys to war? Hearst's paper, The New York Morning Journal, used phony pictures and fake stories to fire the public rage.. He featured trumped-up tales that the Spanish were feeding prisoners to sharks, raping Cuban women, poisoning wells, throwing nuns into prison, and that they roasted 25 Catholic priests alive. When the U.S. battleship Maine blew up in harbor at Havana, Hearst ran the headline: "WAR!

SURE!.. Maine destroyed by Spanish..." Modern reinvestigation attributes the explosion to a spontaneous fire that spread to the ship's munitions. but the war was on, and Hearst's circulation soared... And if you had lived in Berlin in 1945, and someone ha told you that if you moved three blocks you'd be free to make your fortune, but if you stayed where you were you wouldn't see freedom for 45 years... and that you'd be shot if you tried to move those same three blocks... you might have moved.. But there was a huge agenda going on behind the scenes.. politicians were carving up the world... no one reporting to the people...no one standing watch...

If you had lived near Chernobyl in 1986, and someone had told you that a nuclear accident had released 20 times the radiation your government admitted. and that hundreds of thousands of people would be irradiated by contamination that reached Finland, South Africa and even the U.S... that 2,000,000 people would have to move from contaminated cities... that waters were already contaminated, reservoir water undrinkable, and that radiation around the plant was measured at 200 roentgens an hour, far above the lethal level.. .that 600 would die in the next few years, and that cancer, leukemia, and birth defects would skyrocket.. that topsoil in a 1,OOO-square-mile area would have to be hauled off for burial as nuclear waste...and that it would take 200 years to clean up the mess.. you might have moved far away - quickly. But your government hid the truth from you. ..nobody was standing watch for you...
