SEEING RED AT C-SPAN: With evidence of communism's worldwide atrocities and moral and criminal equivalency with Nazism overwhelming, conservatives were startled two weeks ago to find C-SPAN airing a conference and recruitment drive held by the American Communist Party (CP) and its Stalinist leader Gus Hall. Evidence since the 1920s, as well as recently declassified U.S. intelligence intercepts, irrefutably prove that the American Communist Party was an obedient servant of Lenin and Stalin, engaged in espionage, and defended the USSR's "red fascism." Hall's CP received millions of dollars in funding under Mikhail Gorbachev. No word yet whether C-SPAN plans to air conferences and recruitment drives for the American Nazi Party or the Ku Klux Klan.
PATAKI ON HEALTH CARE: In his State of the State address two weeks ago, Gov. George Pataki (R.-N.Y.) proposed a massive expansion of New York state health insurance "for every single child of New York through the age of 18." Pataki, who in the same breath proposed doubling a planned tax cut for 1998 to $1.2 billion, offered few details as to how he would enlarge the Child Care Plus Program, which already provides coverage for 250,000 youngsters in the state. Some of the money will probably come from President Clinton's KiddieCare plan, which will fork over $24 billion to the states for uninsured children over the next five years. Pataki's scheme, which received little criticism from state GOP lawmakers, was seen by many as an integral part of Pataki's likely reelection effort in the fall of 1998.
