house plan: STONES RIVER COTTAGE
Southern Living, Oct 2004
The Stones River Cottage is a fresh take on a farmhouse with clapboard and shingle siding, tin-roof porches, and bracing at the peaks of the front eaves.
The floor plan for the house is very simple. A living room and dining room flank a center hall. The architects located the stairs to access the most lived-in rooms at the back of the house instead of the front foyer. There's ample storage space in and around the kitchen. A butler's pantry connects the kitchen and dining room.
This plan also has lots of great outdoor spaces for enjoying cool evenings. For example, the private master porch is ideal for a morning cup of coffee or for sneaking away to enjoy the last few pages of a book.
One of the neatest features of this house is a large mudroom complete with a tall cabinet to store tools, brooms, leashes, or fishing poles.
The second floor has three bedrooms and a TV room that could also be used as an extra bedroom.
