house plan
Southern Living, Jan 2004
Two-story porches wrap the front and two sides of the Oconee Ridge. The first-floor porch is screened for comfort, while the upper one is open to take in views. Third-floor dormers allow light into an attic that can be used for storage or finished for additional living space.
What looks like a traditional home on the outside opens to reveal one large room with a staircase curving up through the center. To the left is the family room, anchored by a fireplace, and to the right are the dining room and kitchen. As a unique feature, a second fireplace centered between the kitchen and dining room warms both spaces. A back hall with doors opening onto the porch bisects the rear of the house and provides a buffer for the master bedroom, which is completed by a bath and walk-in closet. Upstairs you'll find three additional bedrooms and baths. One of the rooms features a sitting room and three doors that access the second-story porch.
The garage is attached to the back of the house and can easily be adjusted to enter from either the side or the rear.
