Just a Handful a Day

According to the Georgia Pecan Commission's new brochure, a handful of pecans a day may reduce bad cholesterol levels in the body. The brochure offers information on cholesterol, how it may be lowered, and incorporating pecans into a healthy diet.

Pecans can easily be added to meals and snacks. For breakfast, use them to top pancakes, oatmeal, or cereal. At lunch, include toasted pecans in any type of salad. For supper, chop the nuts and add to breadcrumbs to coat fish, chicken, or pork. Or toast pecans in a 300 oven for 10 to 15 minutes or until they are golden brown for a healthy and delicious snack.

Four recipes, for both sweet and savory dishes, are included in the brochure. You can order it three different ways: Download it from the Web site at www.georgiapecans.org, access the link to request a brochure by mail, or send a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope to:

Georgia Department of Agriculture, Capitol Square, 328 Agriculture Building, Atlanta, GA 30334.
