Public Roads,  Jan, 2001

Congress passed and former President Bill Clinton signed a $58 billion annual spending bill for DOT that includes $268 million for dedicated Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) programs plus more than $10 billion that can be used for ITS projects at the discretion of state and local governments.

Of the $268 million, $100 million is for ITS research projects, including $30 million for the Intelligent Vehicle Initiative (IVI) Program. Another $118 million is for ITS deployment projects and is earmarked for particular geographic areas.
