Flagship store signs 10-yr. lease
Real Estate Weekly, Dec 11, 2002
Robert K. Futterman and Associates (RKF) recently arranged a 10-year, 3,500-SF lease for the flagship New York City store featuring fashions by haute couture Israeli designer Yigal Azrouel. The Yigal Azrouel flagship store will open in February 2003 at 408 West 14th St. in the trendy, cobblestone heart of the city's former meatpacking district, now an emerging retail corridor for upscale fashion.
"Yigal Azrouel is one of the most exciting young haute couture designers of the moment," said Robert Cohen, executive vice president of RKF, who along with RKF CEO Robert Futterman represented both Azrouel's company and 408 West 14th St. landlord The Winter Organization in the negotiations.
"I started working with Yigal Azrouel in October 1999 when the designer first undertook the search for a Manhattan flagship store. He had looked with us at locations in SoHo and on Madison Avenue, but ultimately opted for the raw, gritty, cuffing edge locale of the meatpacking district, with its cobblestone streets and distinctive architecture. In addition to Jeffrey's, which pioneered fashion in this area two years ago, the neighborhood has also attracted other hot fashion names such as Stella McCartney, Carlos Miele and Alexander McQueen, so the co-tenancy of the neighborhood had obvious allure for the Yigal Azrouel label. Furthermore, the landlord liked the cachet of having an in-demand designer to add to its tenant roster and the building's appeal."
