The two legislators who virtually wrote the book on the genetic pharmaceutical industry appear to be at odds regarding authorized generics

Drug Store News,  Oct 10, 2005  by James Frederick

The two legislators who virtually wrote the book on the genetic pharmaceutical industry appear to be at odds regarding authorized generics, based on comments they made in separate presentations at the Genetic Pharmaceutical Association policy meeting last month.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, argued that authorized generics are covered under the 1984 Hatch-Waxman Act, while Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., countered that authorized generics run contrary to the spirit of the generics legislation by discouraging competition and thereby increasing pharmaceutical costs.
