A survey sponsored by the American Podiatric Medical Association and Ortho-McNeil revealed that 47 percent of the diabetic population knew little or nothing about diabetic foot ulcers, a treatable condition contributing to the 86,000 lower limb amputations performed each year. According to the American Diabetes Association, diabetic foot ulcers will affect 2.4 million diabetics.
