Cited Web site unreliable - Letters To The Editor - Letter to the Editor

Skeptical Inquirer,  March-April, 2004  by B. Abbott

What was an enjoyable and informative article ("The Fellowship of the Rings," November/December 2003) was marred by the first footnote, of all things. The author cites www.crystalinks.com/angelhair.html as a source.... Was there not a reliable, scientific source explaining Angel Hair that could have been used?

Angel M. Nieves-Rivera replies."

The reason for the Angel Hair citation is to show the concept as it's defined by the UFO believers and not to support their pseudoscientific New Age belief. I was one of those believers until, by scientific reasoning, I came to my own conclusion: it is a misinterpretation or a willful deception. Also, I understand it is not the best source to cite, but since I found no science-based Web site dealing with this pseudoscientific subject, someone who does not know what Angel Hair is needs a definition.
