Men seeking meth: a gay personals ad on the net leads to a drug bust in San Francisco - On the Web - Brief Article

Advocate, The,  Feb 18, 2003

Police say two men who posted a gay personal ad on the community-oriented Web site Craigslist.com weren't looking for a romantic or friendship connection but rather a hookup of a different kind. Buck Cody Davis, 25, of Phoenix, and Adolf Mauriscio, 32, of Contra Costa County, Calif., were arrested in San Francisco in early January on charges that they had sold crystal methamphetamine to undercover officers, The [San Francisco] Examiner reported.

Undercover police responded to an ad offering Tina (a code word for crystal meth) for sale by "two young party boys downtown" on Craigslist's San Francisco page. The ad included a phone number, which led authorities to Davis and Mauriscio. The two were renting a room in the city's Tenderloin district and used a laptop to post the speed-for-sale messages, police said.

"These two guys are small-time players and what we call idiots," one officer said, adding that he was astonished dealers would openly post their phone numbers on a Web site read by millions of people every day.
