Word of the Month—volunteer

PSA Journal,  Nov, 2004  by Matt Daura

Middle Georgia Camera Club's president, Alan Thiese, pumped up interest among club members in his column in the newsletter Southern Exposure, encouraging them to participate in upcoming projects. Quote: "'Volunteer' is the Word of the Month as our members donate time to both the Georgia State Fair and the Georgia National Fair. In addition to earning points for our Annual Club Awards, our club receives a very generous grant of cash for our labors to support the Georgia National Fair. In fact, this is our major fundraiser to support all the fun things our club does during each year. Therefore your participation is essential and also vital.

"As we work side-by-side with our fellow club members, we often learn much about each other, along with picking up tricks of the photo trade (our hobby) as we engage in conversation. As we assist in sorting, judging, and the display of the hundreds of entries, we are exposing ourselves to the many eyes (viewpoints) of our fellow image-makers. These volunteering opportunities allow us all to learn from the efforts of others as we practice our socialization skills along with viewing all the entries we process for the Georgia State Fair and the Georgia National Fair.

"As we all know, the best way to learn and master new skills is to learn by doing. By volunteering with our club these next few months, you will most likely enhance your photography skills, as well as training your eye which will allow you to capture better images."
