Recent donations to Permanent Slide Collection
PSA Journal, Sept, 2004 by Wade W. Clutton
The Color Slide Division (CSD) established the Permanent Slide Collection more than 50 years ago. Over the years, invitations have been extended to outstanding color slide exhibitors based on a variety of criteria. Today a very simple, easy to administer, and most importantly, a fair system is used. When an exhibitor receives the 5th Star and the 1st Diamond Galaxy, an invitation is extended.
The oldest slides in the collection date back to the 1939 World's Fair in New York City when Kodachrome was just an infant. Today, the collection exceeds 700 slides and represents the world's photographic community. Viewing the slides in a time-order is like looking through a stack of Life magazines. The photographers have captured the eternally evolving character and styles of the world. And, as the quality of cameras, lenses, light meters, and film has improved, so too have the images. The Permanent Slide Collection is presented periodically at PSA Conferences and from time-to-time at other major photographic events.
The CSD thanks the following exhibitors for being 2004's contributors: Jozef Aerts, FPSA, EPSA, of Belgium for Ndebele--Child; Gene Almendinger of Scottsdale, AZ, for Flute Player; Leslie R. Hollingworth, FPSA, PPSA, of England for Memories; Bernard Huysmans of Belgium for Skating; Wolfgang Kaeding, PPSA, of Germany for Discriminate Against; Kiew Tin-Ming of Singapore for Brothers; Betty Jane Kranz-Sinclair, APSA, PPSA, of Sequim, WA, for Glimpse of the Past; Constance N. There is a secret to these photographer's images; they are all of outstanding quality. The images cover a variety of subjects, and they were taken with a variety of cameras, lenses, filters, lighting, etc.; some have a creative treatment. They represent the variety and diversity of successful photography today.
