Pictorial print

PSA Journal,  March, 2005  by LaVonna Hitz

Photographers in the Pictorial Print Divisions (PPD) are looking forward to the coming of spring and more opportunities to get out and photograph all the wonders of the coming season.

American Portfolios

Director of American Portfolios, Richard Collier, APSA, has submitted the following news:

* Portfolio (PF) #25 is issuing the Green Eagle (GE) certificate for having received 50 GE's in that portfolio. Mark Southard has received a certificate for his 5th GE in PF, Nature #1.

* A new portfolio (Computer Printed No. 3) will begin the first circuit January, 2005. This is a monochrome print portfolio. Members are: James A. Baker, APSA, Milwaukie, OR; Dewey V. Schorre, Ojai, CA; Ryno W. Olson, Muscatine, IA; Stanley Ashbrook, FPSA, Largo, FI; Kimberly Brock, Mason, OH; Billy Burke, APSA, Cornelius, OR; and new members to this activity, Pat Starr, Portland, OR, and John Forest, Wawen, MI.

Another monochrome computer printed portfolio will be organized if there are a few more persons showing interest.

There are portfolios for color prints and portfolios for monochrome prints. Then there are other portfolios that accept both color and monochrome prints. Printers will want to select one or more and get in on the fun.

For additional information, it is suggested you contact Richard Collier direct by e-mail at dickcoll@aol.com.

People You Should Know in the PPD

Continuing the PPD column's introduction of members of the Division, another special person is named here.

The wonders of photography were opened to Taylor Williams of Schertz, TX, by an uncle who loaned him his Argus C-3, better known as "The Brick." With this beginning, Taylor learned darkroom work. Now in this modern day, he still shoots film but finds he can scan his negatives and then use Photoshop and digital printing. He still maintains his darkroom but only uses it for film processing and a little black and white processing. Taylor was involved with three different camera clubs long before joining PSA. As a 12-year member of the Society, he finds the PSA Print Study Groups have been most helpful in getting objective critiques, being able to view the work of others, and making new friends. He has been Assistant Director of three portfolios for the past 5 years, attended three annual PSA international conferences, and knows he has gained many new ideas as well as renewing his enthusiasm to photograph a world filled with grace and light. He considers each photo a gift of God's grace, to share with others.
