The University of California is facing strikes by lecturers and clerical workers at campuses across the state. U.C.-Berkeley clerical workers and lecturers began the fall semester with a three-day strike. On October 14, clerical workers and lecturers struck at five campuses--Davis, Irvine, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz demanding raises, improved health benefits, and job security. The U.C. administrators say their hands are tied due to the state budget crisis.
