Shaolin Soccer
Interview, Sept, 2002 by Jarret McNeill
(Miramax Films)
Directed by Stephen Chow
A soccer coach in search of a team and a Shaolin Monk yearning to spread interest in his brand of martial arts find in one another a mutual solution to their problems. Lead by the charismatic actor/director Chow--a Hong Kong cinema legend--a group of former monks (including an electric newcomer named Vicki Zhao) form a team and use their kung fu-influenced acrobatic style of play to kick their way into the championship. A winner.
