In praise of pain-free acting
Interview, Feb, 2008 by Paulina Plazas
Dear Interview,
I grew up in Colombia dreaming of one day becoming an actor like Marcello Mastroianni, Claudia Cardinale, and Sophia Loren, but lately it seems as if the movie industry has been underestimating our intelligence by putting painful acting on the big screen (and by painful, I mean bad, horrible, clearly untrained talent). Your November issue, however, was a beautiful reminder of the kind of acting that inspired me to move to New York City from a third world country--the kind of acting Javier Bardem and Nicole Kidman are known for--and that has me attending drama school and gladly paying 10 bucks to see a movie. So thank you, Interview, for proving that acting can still be an art form.
