Interview, August, 2004
"I was initiated into the world of techno music when I was sixteen. In the industrial wastelands outside my home in Rome, nomadic groups of techno music lovers set up their drum boxes and joined together in the tribal experiment of making music. These unending parties would sometimes last for three or four days, and I loved the romantic, renunciative feeling of it all.
Later, I attended Princeton University and majored in religious studies, but I still DJ four nights a week. Techno music moves me in a very visceral sense, and I find the raw, propulsive element of it completely involving. Recently, I've considered acting. I want to be my own person, so I've been very reluctant to follow in the footsteps of my mother and father [actress Ursula Andress and actor Harry Hamlin]. But making characters breathe and pumping blood into a scene seems very beautiful to me. I don't want to protect myself from life's possibilities."
